Maimoona Azhar

Dr Maimoona Azhar is Founder and CEO of Telegenz, an Irish start-up that has developed a SaaS, cloud-based training platform, for training of healthcare providers in remote patient assessment skills. While Telegenz was primarily designed for training of students and trainees in Telehealth practice across all healthcare disciplines, it is a versatile platform that is scalable for use in various educational domains like Law, Business and soft skills development at both Institutional and Corporate levels.
Dr Azhar qualified from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan and has a background in software development using which she developed and pioneered a medical e-learning platform during her 2nd year of med school in the year 2002. She also trained as a soft skills trainer and held various workshops for students and junior doctors. Before moving to Ireland she led “Training of the Tutors Program for Nurses and Midwives” – a 30 weeks residential training program at Abu Zafar Institute of Medical Sciences, Koohi Goth Women’s Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan, developed as a capacity building programme by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Pakistan National Forum on Women’s Health (PNFWH) to address maternal health and mortality issues in the country. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to various conferences as speaker on medical e-learning.
She moved to Ireland in the year 2011, completed her Masters in Leadership and Management Development from Institute of Leadership,– RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Since her arrival in Ireland she has been involved in clinical education of medical students as a Surgery Lecturer in both undergraduate and graduate-entry medicine programs at prestigious universities like RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences and University College Dublin where she also worked clinically with General Surgery and Plastic Surgery team at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin.
When due to the Pandemic, Telemedicine accelerated its way into healthcare globally, she combined her work experience as clinical educator and background in soft skills training and software development, to develop Telegenz and embarked on her start-up journey. The idea is to train all virtual health care providers in the area of remote patient assessment skills to ensure patient satisfaction, quality and safe virtual care.
Telegenz has been recognized as one of the best new start-up ideas in Ireland and is an Enterprise Ireland (EI) – High Potential Start-up (HPSU) client and a recipient of EI – Competitive Start Fund.
